Academic - Persons whose work is primarily educational and who are devoting a major portion of their time working at the college level in agricultural consulting, farm and ranch management, rural appraisal, and/or appraisal review as instructors, researchers, extension workers or administrators and who have held such positions for two or more years.

Accredited, Professional, and Associate members who no longer provide farm and ranch management, agricultural consulting, rural appraisal and/or appraisal review services may apply to the Executive Council for Inactive member status. Members on Inactive Status will continue to receive the Society's newsletter, ASFMRA Journal and ASFMRA Directory, but will be listed in the Directory as "inactive members" and will not be eligible for referrals for business and are not eligible to vote. Applications shall be submitted annually to the Executive Council which shall evaluate the appropriateness of the request. The role of agricultural consultants is becoming more and more critical as agriculture enters the fast paced era of consolidation, technology, specialization, mergers, and reformation. An Accredited Agricultural Consultant (AAC) trained in the delivery of their consulting expertise to the market and in the management of their consulting business have set themselves apart from the competition by earning an AAC (Accredited Agricultural Consultant) designation.

Honorary - Those members nominated by their Chapters whose service to their Chapter and the Society, as determined by and at the sole discretion of Council, merits special membership classification consideration.
